Upākarma is the annual renewal of the sacred thread (yajnopavita) and the resumption of Vedic study. Each Veda observes it on its own day: Ṛgveda Upākarma, Yajur Upākarma (Shravani Upakarma, Aavani Avittam) and Sāmaveda Upākarma.
