About

Guggā Navamī

Guggā Navamī (also called Gogā Navamī) falls on the ninth day of the dark fortnight (Kṛṣṇa Pakṣa) of the lunar month Śrāvaṇa, as reckoned by the amānta calendar (the same lunar day pūrṇimānta calendars name Bhādrapada Kṛṣṇa Navamī).

The day is dedicated to Gogājī, also known as Guggā Pīra or Jāharavīra Gogājī, a folk deity venerated across North India, primarily in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, as a protector against snakebite.
