Budhāṣṭamī

Budhāṣṭamī (बुधाष्टमी) is the Aṣṭamī of the bright fortnight that falls on a Wednesday, the day of Budha. The Dharmasindhu takes it up in its chapter on the Ashtami tithi.

In the month of Pausha, the Dharmasindhu asks that on the Shukla Ashtami falling on a Wednesday one bathe, do japa, homa and tarpana, and feed Brahmanas. With Bharaṇī nakshatra that day, some say, it is of very great merit; others say this of Rohiṇī or Ardra.

"On the Shukla Ashtami of Pausha joined with a Wednesday, bath, japa, homa, tarpana and the feeding of Brahmanas are to be done. With Bharani it is of very great merit, say some; with Rohini or Ardra, say others."
