About Bhaḍalī Navamī
About

Bhaḍalī Navamī

Bhaḍalī Navamī (ભડલી નોમ, भड़ली नवमी), also called Bhadariya Navami and Kandarp Navami, is the Navami of the bright half of Ashadha. It is the last day of the Ashadha Gupt Navaratri, and it comes two days before Devshayani Ekadashi, when Bhagavan Vishnu goes to his yogic sleep and Chaturmas begins.

The muhurta texts keep weddings out of the months while Vishnu sleeps, so from Devshayani Ekadashi until Devuthi Ekadashi in Kartika no weddings are set. That makes Bhadli Navami the last wedding day before Chaturmas. In North Gujarat and Rajasthan it is held to be an abujh (vanjoyu) day: by long custom a wedding, engagement or griha pravesha on this day needs no separate muhurta.

Bhagavan Vishnu is worshipped on this day, and those keeping the Gupt Navaratri close it with the Navami puja to Devi.
