Upakarma
Upkarma "Beginning" (Sanskrit: ), also called vai Aviam (Tamil: ) and Janivrada Huime (Kannada: ), is a Vedic ritual still practiced by modern Hindus of the Brahmin caste.
Upkarma is conducted once a year, when Brahmins ritually change their upanayana thread accompanied by relevant rauta rituals, making rddha offerings to the rishis, whom Hindus believe composed the Vedic hymns. The day, also called rvana Prnima "Full Moon of rvana" in other parts of India.
